Namco Confirms Pulling Splatterhouse from BottleRocket
Splatterhouse is going to new hands, but whose hands remains unknown.
Over the weekend, rumors circulated that publisher Namco Bandai had pulled Splatterhouse from developer BottleRocket, despite the fact that the game was nearing completion. Today, Namco confirmed pulling the game from BottleRocket, but stopped short of giving a reason.
"We have decided to part ways with BottleRocket Entertainment but we are committed to bringing Splatterhouse to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year," a Namco spokesperson said to Kotaku. "At this time, we are not ready to discuss specific development details about the game and wish BottleRocket the best of luck in their future endeavors."
What those future endeavors may be remain up the air, as it was also rumored that the loss of Splatterhouse would essentially mark the end of BottleRocket, which is believed to have no other projects in development. Speaking to Gamasutra, a BottleRocket representative also confirmed Namco had pulled Splatterhouse, but didn't discuss where that left the studio. "Last Friday, Namco showed up with a U-Haul truck, took all their assets (dev kits, etc.) and informed management that the title was being pulled from Bottlerocket," the representative said.
