Disney Planning New Tron Game for Forthcoming Sequel?
Anonymous reports say yes, and it sure seems like a no-brainer.
So as we all likely know by now, Disney is planning to release a sequel to the seminal videogame-themed 1982 film Tron, cleverly (or painfully) under the current working title Tr2n. Whether this turns out to be a fantastic return to a beloved classic or a complete disaster is anyone's guess, but the good news for gamers is, according to Variety, that this means a new Tron videogame is in the works as well.
The Cut Scene blog reports that although they failed to get any official confirmation, sources have said that Disney Interactive Studios is currently in talks with various developers about making a new Tron game to tie-in with the film sequel. Details about the game are understandably scarce, but the movie is currently set to release in 2011, and that's when this new game would be expected to release as well.
Interestingly, this comes as Disney Interactive Studios, like most in the videogames industry these days, struggles with the current economic climate. 30 people were recently laid off at their Propaganda Games studio, makers of last year's Turok reboot. Additionally, they've merged two of their six internal developers, Fall Line and Avalanche, with the newly merged developer set to focus on games based on Disney animated films (upcoming Pixar films Toy Story 3 and The Princess and the Frog will be their first projects).
